BETA Puts Certification, Infrastructure and Autonomy on the Same Balance Sheet

BETA Technologies reported second-quarter revenue of $14.7 million, up from $6.0 million a year earlier, alongside a $148.8 million net loss and $122.4 million in research-and-development expense. The company said its charging network has reached 138 sites, formal FAA testing is underway for its H500A electric motor, and the FAA has accepted the complete compliance requirements for its CX300 aircraft.
BETA also highlighted its first operations under the federal eVTOL Integration Pilot Program and the autonomous, hybrid-electric MV250 it unveiled in July. The quarter shows how certification evidence, operating experience and ground infrastructure are being developed as one commercial system rather than separate products.

Michigan Gives Five State Agencies $2 Million in Aerial Pilots
Michigan selected five projects for a combined $2 million under its AAM Statewide Mobility Challenges. The pairings cover air and water monitoring, wildfire mapping, road-condition intelligence, drone detection and pesticide-drift investigations across five state departments.
The structure makes agencies operational partners rather than demonstration audiences. Useful results will depend on whether the pilots define measurable baselines, data ownership, integration costs and a path from grant-funded trials to routine procurement.

FCC Revokes Two Odyssey Robot Equipment Authorizations
The Federal Communications Commission revoked equipment authorizations for an Odyssey Robot UAS and remote controller after the company did not answer agency inquiries or an order to show cause. The FCC said the devices were foreign-produced covered equipment and that the authorizations had relied on false production and assembly statements; Odyssey's named Texas assembler separately denied having a relationship with the company.
The practical distinction matters: the order blocks U.S. marketing under those authorizations, including sale, lease, advertising, import and distribution, but does not direct existing owners to stop operating the equipment. Manufacturers and buyers should treat supplier provenance and authorization records as evidence to audit, not declarations to inherit.

Hyde County Emergency Services
Hyde County, North Carolina, is evaluating a Pivotal Helix eVTOL with Pivotal and Code Blue Resources for emergency medical response. Pivotal said a flight-trained paramedic used the aircraft under a Public Aircraft Operation to respond to two live 911 calls and began advanced life support before ground crews arrived; on one mission, the aircraft reportedly reached the patient about 20 minutes before the ambulance.
The model collapses aviation and clinical work into one crew member. That may shorten the first-response chain, but it makes dispatch criteria, landing-site information, weather limits, medical payloads, fatigue and handoff procedures part of the aviation system.
Lesson: Measure the full response chain, including safe launch, scene access, treatment, patient transfer and aircraft recovery. A fast arrival is useful only when every handoff works.
Technology Worth Watching
Turning Cellular Infrastructure Into a Drone Sensor
Lockheed Martin, Verizon, NVIDIA, Keysight Technologies, ODC and Astris AI demonstrated NetSense in the Miami area using 5G infrastructure and artificial intelligence to detect changes in radio-frequency signals associated with a drone. The partners said the July test maintained track custody; an earlier prototype detected a small drone that was not connected to the cellular network.
Worth watching: Whether pilot deployments establish repeatable detection range, classification accuracy, false-alarm performance and coverage across real network geometries. A successful demonstration does not by itself supply identification, mitigation authority or an aviation-grade surveillance service.
